Federal overtime rules
The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) requires overtime at 1.5× for hours worked beyond 40 in a workweek for most non-exempt employees. Some states add daily overtime rules — California, for example, requires overtime after 8 hours in a day and double time after 12.
